IVEY Family of Farnham -- Marriage lookup please

I have an interesting thread on the Ivey family of Paddington which was started over on the London & Middlesex board:

The chase has now led back to the earlier family of William Ivey & Mary in Farnham which is recorded on the IGI [C069732].

One of William & Mary's eight children was George Ivey, bap. May 13, 1781, Farnham. George's first three children (Harriott, George, William) were baptized in Farnham in the period 1805-1810, with the mother recorded as Sarah. The family then appears to have moved to London as the baptisms take up again in St Mary-St Marylebone in 1811. On one of these records the mother is recorded as Sarah Louisa.

To close the loop, I would greatly appreciate a lookup in the Surrey marriage index or the Farnham PRs for a marriage between George Ivey and a Sarah (Louisa) in about 1804-1805.

I would also appreciate any local insights or knowledge of the Ivey family of Farnham who appear to have been coachsmiths and blacksmiths.

No marriage for George & Sarah on the SMI Undecided

But you might be able to give these IVEY marriages in Farnham a good home Wink

The info on the other Iveys will certainly help to fill out the picture of the family in Farnham.

Ray, you might like to consider looking for the marriage in Hampshire as Farnham is right on the border. Remember that marriages normally took place in the brides parish so Sarah might have been from a nearby Hants parish

The marriage doesn't appear to be in Hampshire either.

There's this one on the IGI. I know it's after the baptism's but sometimes couples did marry after having several children, it's not a modern thing Undecided

George IVY to Sarah FULLER, 17 OCT 1815 Kilmeston, Hampshire.
Personally I don't think it's your couple but I thought I would draw your attention to it,

The family appears to have moved to London around 1812, judging by baptisms which resume in Marylebone.

The Ivey name appears to be very common on Cornwall, which might explain why it is showing up in the counties of southern England.

rthom, I was thinking this through. I had an ancestor who was a fairly well-to-do in Dorking, a Surrey man through & through. Could I find his marriage? No! By chance I browsed through the Marriage Allegations on British Origins & found a likely candidate on their index. On my next trip to the UK I went to the SOG in London to look at the image & it was him. He had married in Lambeth!
As your man seems to come from a similar background it might be worth looking for a licence on Origins. It's pay-per-view to view the image but worth it,

Thanks for the idea, Jane. I will check it out. I realize that it was customary for marriages to occur in the home parish of the bride. So if Sarah's family came from further afield that would explain the puzzle.

There are 5 entries for the name George IVEY on the Origins marriage records, which includes marriage allegations, so might be worth forking out

Other reasons for marrying outside their parishes are, they wanted to marry away from prying eyes. It was considered a bit classy to get married by licence rather than have the banns read in their respective parishes.
