Just an add on,  this morning I have found a son for Margaret and Thaddeus, he was Edward Eric Doody-Earle born june 1912 died 1974 . Another mystery for me re the Doody-Earle Huh

Leandra

Hi Leandra

In the early 1900's, when a formal adoption of a child took place, it was the usual practice for their adopted surname, to be annexed to their birth surname.

Did you find Edward Eric on the Historical death index ?

There is a probate record held by Archives NZ (Auckland) for the following, who could well be "your" man ?

EARLE - Edward Eric - Rotorua - builder - 1976

There is a marriage also (same name as on probate record).
If you want the details, send me a PM.

Girls parents were Thaddeus Doody and Margaret Alice Doody divorced in 1921 ...

Hi Leandra

*   Have you considered obtaining a copy of the divorce file ?

I would think it likely that its contents would answer many of the questions you have.   Smiley   (And may save you the often very difficult task of endeavouring to source records from "social welfare" agencies and the like.)   Wink
