I would guess that the second initial is an 'E'.

Further to the message that I have just posted...

The previous entry appears to include the same Minister's name. However, the second initial does not look like an 'E' in that entry - more like a 'G'.

Confusing...

Thank you so would the Protestant Dissenting Minister be the priest that did the baptism?

Jenny

Rev J. E. Simmons was minister at the Baptist Church in Bluntisham at the time of your entry. http://bluntishambaptist.org/history/previous_ministers.asp

As a Baptist minister he would not be described as a priest – this is a title for Church of England and Roman Catholic clerics.  A child would not be baptised as an infant in the Baptist Church, but its birth would simply be registered – you will note that Mr Simmons says “registered by me” and not “baptised”.  This is because Baptists believe that adult baptism (total immersion) is appropriate after a person has made their own choice to join the church.

The useful part here is that the child (Gifford?) is registered with its exact date of birth, not baptism, though I must confess I can’t decide whether the year is 1830 or 1835!

added later:

Incidentally, Bluntisham was a veritable hotbed of Baptists, led by the charismatic Coxe Feary (1759-1822)

You're welcome, Jenny.  Most of my Hunts ancestors were also Baptists, though not from Bluntisham.
