Julia Welch born abt. 1844 Birmingham
« on: Monday 02 November 09 08:47 UTC (UK) »

Hi Everyone,

I have been trying to find the 1851, 61 and 71 census records for a Julia Welch born Birmingham about 1844.  I have the 1881 census which ID's her place of birth and approximate DOB.  Her husband was James Robert Salmons.  According to other sources her parents were Patrick Welch born in Ireland and Esther birth place not known, but died Birmingham 28th Dec 1847.  I am trying to locate these census records in the hope that I can verify her parents.  I have what may be Julia's birth registration index reference, but I am not sure because I am told she was born 15th Sept 1844 and the registration that I found was in the last quarter of 1844.  Finding the 1851/61 census may help clarify a lot.  Any help is appreciated.

Hi

Your Julia Welch may not have been registered until the December Quarter.

Also Patrick may have remarried or returned to Ireland.

There are several Julia Welchs' that could be her who are working with other families.

Yes, you are right about the registration Wendy, and I think I will send for it anyway.  I have found quite a few possibilities for her father and , as you say, there are a few where she could be working away from home on her own.  I suppose I was hoping that I had missed something in my searches and possibly a fresh mind may have found the obvious.  Anyway, I send for Julia's birth certificate and see what it throws up.  I thought that her mother being Esther might have shown something in the 1841 census, but nothing there either.  Thanks Wendy.

I can't believe it.  I think you are on to something here Tati.  I am now off to have a go at tracing the rest of the family to see what it throws up.

Thanks for the ray of light.
