Old streetname in Wrexham
« on: Monday 02 November 09 12:42 UTC (UK) »

Hello, I was wondering if anyone can help me with locating an adress in Wrexham. My grandfather, John Frederick Atkin was born at 3 Eleanor Terrace , Wrexham in 1878. I cannot find this on any maps. Has the street name changed or been wiped out altogether? John's father was Frederick John, "club manager" and resided with his wife Sarah at 3 Eleanor Terrace. The family moved to Birkenhead. My grandfather and his family emmigrated to Australia in 1923.

Hi Roger

There was an Eleanor Terrace in nearby Shotton.  Is it possible it was this one?

Hello Roger:
This family of six is on the 1881 census living in Everton, but they are all 'Atkins' His father is a 'ship brokers clerk'
John F. Atkins is listed as 2years old and born in Wrexham, Denbigh.

I have had similar situations and by using the 1881 census enter any name in Wrexham, you can go from household to household and therefore from street to street until you find Eleanor Terrace. Once you have located all the neighbouring streets you should get a fix on the modern map.

Wrexham has undergone virtually a total refit over the last 20 years so a number of street names will have dissapeared.
