Foster family christenings St Peters parish church, liverpool
« on: Monday 02 November 09 12:59 UTC (UK) »

Hello
Just had my application for the birth certificate rejected from Liverpool registry, as I didn't know which district she was born in.
Hoping that someone may help as to the christening record instead !!
I have found on the Mormons site 2 christenings for I think my ancestors.
Caroline Foster St peters 15 th april 1839 and Elizabeth, same church 17th aug 1851.
I am looking for my ancestor Mary Ann Foster, born 1848/49 in the same area and hopefully would have been christened in the same church.
Parents John and Ann Foster.
Would any kind person have access to any of this churches records and be able to look up the details for my ancestor Mary Ann and any other sibblings, born to the same parents.
I would be most grateful.

Hello

You can look up St. Peters records on the Lancs OPC site. The search facility is not working so you would have to go to Liverpool, then St. Peters and hopefully you will find what you are looking for.

Alternatively you could contact the GRO and ask them to do a search for you.  They will search 3 years either side of a date you give them for a few pounds more than the cost of a certificate.  You will get all the details on their site.

I found 3 possibles on Free BMD:

Mary Ann Foster:

Q3 1845  Liverpool  Ref 20 505
Q2 1847  Liverpool  Ref 20 472
Q4 1848  Liverpool  Ref 20 278

 Hello
Thanks for the Lancashire OPC. have just searched the whole Liverpool site and not one of the family is on there! None of the christenings....I then tried out of curiousity the 2 marriages of the Fosters and they did not come up either. It's strange that not one record is on that site, as I have found Caroline and Elizabeth's christenings on the Mormons site.
It's a pity that none of the records for St Peter are there.
I suppose the only option is the General Register office !
Does anyone know where the records for St Peter's church are kept?
kind regards

Hello again

I remembered that years ago I bought a St Peters marriages CD and I eventually managed to find it.  It runs from 1800 to 1837 but there are no matches on it for your John and Ann.

However, on IGI is a marriage for John Foster and Ann Garnett at St Nicholas in June 1838.  I have read somewhere that people did sometimes use both these churches.

There is a birth for Caroline Foster in 1839, quarter 2 in West Derby so I would imagine that was the district for all of them.  If you send for Caroline's birth certificate you will get her mother's maiden name and this will tell you  if the above marriage is the correct one.

There are births for Mary and Elizabeth Foster in West Derby in the correct years , but there are more than one so when you have the mother's maiden name you could try ordering again asking them to only send the certificate with the correct maiden name.

Good luck

Hello
Thanks for your help. I have a copy of the John Foster and Ann Garnett wedding certificate, because I thought that they were the correct parents. Caroline was christened in 1839 and other sibblings after her. I will contact the register office for the birth certificate.... the name Foster is quite common, so I just hope that the correct one can be found !
kind regards
