Stewart ancestors emigrated to Canada from Midlothian area of Scotland
« on: Monday 02 November 09 13:38 UTC (UK) »

Another of my long shots. Looking for information about the possible emigration of two ancestors (brothers)  from Scotland. Daniel Stewart born Cullen Banffshire 1843. Last 'sighting' in 1881 census for Loanhead area of Midlothian. Daniel was a widower at this time his wife having died in 1878. Brother William born Cullen 1845. Last sighting in 1871 census for Loanhead. Possibly a teacher. I have a possible, though admittedly vague, canadian connection. I think the brothers may have had some nephew/nieces in canada prior to them possibly joining them. These relations may have been the sons/daughters of their older brother George Stewart. He was born in Cullen c. 1840 and was a farmer. As far as I can ascertain he died at the age of about 85 in the north of Scotland. The parents of George, Daniel and William (and their other siblings )  were Alexander Stewart born 1805 and Elspet(h) Grant born c. 1811. Any relevant information would be gratefully received. Thanks.

You can search the 1881 and 1891 census of Canada for free from this site
http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/lac-bac/search-recherche/anc.php?Language=eng
and the 1901 and 1911 census from here
http://automatedgenealogy.com/index.html

There is a record of Daniel Stewart, 44, b. abt 1844 travelling from Glasgow to Halifax on the Prussian arriving 13 August 1888.
