criminal record search

Hi,
I am new to this, i have been trying to trace my fathers side of the family and it is proving quite difficult as my grandad never spoke about his parents.

I believe he had a criminal record, i know it probably won't help in finding who his parents are, but will help myself in who he was and what sort of a past life he had.

Could any body tell me if i can obtain a copy of his criminal record and if so how would i go about this.
The help would surely help me.

I am currently trying to find if there is a way to gain my grandads criminal records currently in the United Kingdom, which is where i believe he has a record.

Hi Lynette,

I have no experience finding criminal records in the UK, (plenty in NZ Wink) If you havn't already, check the resources board for the county your grandad was in, if you know.  Then perhaps as Sarah suggested place some dates, places and names etc on the county board, a local will probably have a good idea of resources available.

It has been the practice for a number of years that the Criminal records of any individual in the UK are destroyed upon their death (some can also be destroyed on the 80th birthday of the individual depending upon circumstances).
