could some kind person look up a baptism of a hilda williams born march 1910 in rhyl
mother gwendoline
raised by her maternal grandparents
sorry have no other info
grasping at straws !
we know she went to church regular so hoping for extra info from a baptism

I don't have an immediate need to visit the archives at Hawarden, but I do go occasionally, so I'll put your search on my to-do list. If you haven't had a response from anyone else, I'll do what I can.

In the meantime, neither FreeBMD or NorthWalesBMD (which is complete for this district) show a birth for Hilda Williams registered at Denbighshire North, which includes Rhyl, in 1910. They do show one at Hawarden and one at Wrexham, 3rd and 4th quarter respectively.

hida was born chorlton manchester ..maternity home for unmarried mothers
we have her birth cert...
hilda said she was raised in rhyl by maternal grandparents (names not known)
as regular church goers we are hoping they had her baptised
since i posted this request i have found her in the workhouse 1911 with mother gwendoline in st asaph......but could be a long time before i get any info .......

Hi Dee.....

According to the 1911 census, Gwendoline was aged 18 , and born Rhyl.....

Just a thought, but I think this may be her 1n 1901....

58, Victoria Road, Rhyl

Susannah Williams / boarder / married / age 31 / born Rhyl
GWENDOLINE Williams / daughter / age 8 / born Rhyl
Edward David Willliams / son / age 4 / born Rhyl
Margaret Williams / daughter / age 5 weeks / born Rhyl

thanks for that about the census

that has been my gut instinct but with no proof yet i just have to wait for info from workhouse records hopefully with next of kin on record...
still so excited about finding hilda and gwendoline at last , oh well must keep looking for some patience it must be here somewhere

as an after thought she is boarding with another lady with children , no men in sight , both women married no occupation filled in do you think the men were at sea ?

St Asaph workhouse records are also held at Hawarden, so I'll add that search to my to-do list, but I'm not sure they'll let me see the records for 1911 - they're sometimes a bit funny about the 100 year rule.

No baptism for Hilda in Rhyl.

Parish register for St Asaph Parish Church, 9th October 1910, baptism of Hilda Williams, illegitimate daughter of Gwendoline, abode "Cartrefle".

There were 2 other baptisms of illegitimate children on that day, and others on other dates, all with the same abode.

I'm not sure, but Cartrefle was either an alternative name for the Workhouse or another "home" adjacent to it.
