Hello Peoples,
I'm looking for any Lovett connections in the Colne area.
A segment of the Lovett family emigrated from Hertfordshire in about 1870/1880 to Colne, presumambly to find regular work.
They stayed, propogated ( and all that ), while the Hertfordshire stay at homes went on to other things in North London, East London, and thence to Essex, where most of them to this day have rosy cheeks.
So if you have info., and/or connections, tell me all about it.
Regards,
Boblima

Hi,

Just had a look at the Lancashire Parish Clerks website for Lovetts in the Colne area around the dates you mentioned and it came up with only three records:-
Burial: 10 Oct 1899 Christ Church, Colne, Lancashire, England Helen Lovett - Age: 39 yrs Abode: 23 Keighley Rd. Colne Buried by: S. H. W. Lovett Off. Min. Register: Burials 1885 - 1900, Page 66, Entry 522
Banns: Christ Church, Colne, Lancashire, England William Leonard - of Colne Kezia Lovett - of Soham Cambridgeshire Banns Read: 8 Dec 1878, 2nd: 15 Dec 1878, 3rd: 22 Dec 1878 Register: Banns of Marriage 1839
Burial: 20 Nov 1877 Christ Church, Colne, Lancashire, England Ellen Edith Lovett - Age: 2 months Abode: Colne Fields Colne Buried by: J. Mason Austen Vicar Register: Burials 1836 - 1885, Page 157, Entry 1251 Source: LDS Film 1471023
There are other records for Lovett in the the Lancashire area, mainly from the Bolton/Farnworth/Westhoughton area but these are the only ones I can see for Colne.
If you want to have a look yourself the website address is ;-

Hope this helps.

Dear Luzzu,
Many thanks for the info on the Lovetts of Lancashire, unfortunately I don't think the ones that you've mentioned are from my crowd, mine were James Lovett b.1856 Hertfordshire, married tro a Ellen Conway, and John Lovett b.1863 also Hertfordshire, married to Amelia Doult and on her demise, Elizabeth Sowerby, all the girls were Lancashire girls, ( the Lovett men were/are incredibly handsome ).
But thank you again for taking the trouble, I'm indebted.
Regards,
Boblima

My grandmother was Mary Elizabeth Lovett, daughter of James Lovett and Ellen Conway. Residing in Colne Lancashire. Think this is what you are looking for.

Hello David,
Wow ! A chink of light, I didn't know that James Lovett and Ellen Conway had a daughter Mary, I only have their son James Lovett junior born in the Burnley area in 1884, and who went on to marry a Emily Wooliscroft, does all this sound famailiar to you ?? any other information, dates, names, bank account details, no joking on that last bit, but any relevant info on the Colne/Nelson/Blackburn Lovetts would be very much appreciated, and conversely of course, if you think I might have any info about the Southern, slightly sun tanned, golden haired Lovetts that may be of interest to you, please dn't hesitate.
But thanks for the contact
regards,
Bob

Hi Bob James and Ellen had other children as well, as you said, James (1884) Mary Elizabeth (1886) Sarah Ann (1888) John (1890) Clara (1893) William (1900) and Lillian (1903). All are available on Ancestry.com in the Census records. Mary married George Davidson in 1906, and had three children, Bernard , George and Clarence. George Snr. was killed in Flanders in 1916 and in 1922 she married my grandfather Ernest Eastwood in Colne.
Plenty to work with there Regards, David
p.s. do you have any photos of these supposed Adonises' from the south?

Hi Bob,
Really pleased to see you are making progress.
One thing is for sure though your "Southern, slightly sun-tanned, gold haired Lovetts" must have had incredibly good taste and sense" to marry Lancashire lasses.

Dear, dear Luzzu,
Have I got any photo's ?? well now, are you suggesting I forward them ?? you are now getting into the realms of technological fantasy Luzzu, ( Luzzu. is that a Swahili name ? doesn't sound very Lancashire or Essex to me ), doing clever things on laptops is something that I'm having to concentrate on, I'm clever in other fields, I know the capital of Fiji, I know Neil Diamonds middle name, I can drive an automatic car, but sending things on this internet thingy.................not really, but you're obviously interested in looks, so let me see if I can give you a flavour, imagine if you will, Clint Eastwood marrying Gracie Fields..............yep !! got it in one.
But thank you for your interest and effort, it really is appreciated.
Regards.
Bob

Luzzu ! You're right. Again !! it was David was the one who queried the photo's, back to the drawing board..............hey ! we once went to Malta, we drove around and around Valletta until we found out that you can't drive a car into the city centre on feast days, but we got a lovely tan.
regards,
Bob
