Pink print
« on: Monday 02 November 09 22:06 UTC (UK) »

Can anyone explain to me why my printer wants to print photos all in PINK?
It also printed a cert. I scanned, in pink Roll Eyes

I have an Epson stylus D78, and recently replaced all the colours.
I have to admit, they were not genuine Epson. Is this the problem?

I have printed text only e-mails with no problem.

heads need cleaning, do the cleaning utility
you may find you have to do it numerous times after each clean do a test page and you should see it improving, also do a nozzle check and you should see which colour is playing up,
it can happen with originals as well as replacements

I have done the nozzle check and cleaned several times. The black, pink and yellow are ok. No sign of the blue! What now? A new cartridge?

Hi

We have an Epson DX8400 printer and are using not genuine Epson cartridges and the printer does not tell us when ink runs out so it looks like your blue wants replacing. So if your colours do not look right anytime just do as you have just done now and you will know which colour to replace.

keep cleaning i am afraid, it will sort itself eventually,
just uses a little ink on each clean, have you noticed any improvement on the test pages?
we have a couple of all in one printers and every so often (especially when not used for a week or so)
one will need cleaning to get correct colours, i buy the inks in bulk from ebay and works out about £1 a cartridge, so not the end of the world when we have to use a bit to clean,

one thing to check make sure you have not got a load of ink on the print rail, if so you will need to carefully wipe it up with baby wipes, don't press to hard  Wink

print rail is what the cartridges slide up and down on, underneath is often a sponge like material
that sometimes soaks up ink and gets a bit clogged, if you lift the lid where you insert the new cartridges you will see the bar they slide on Wink

Had a look. No blue stripe! Cleaned with baby wipe.
Done nozzle check again, all ok but no blue.
Did alignment check, result, came out all pink. Did colour check, just numbers in black Cry
Given in and ordered proper epson cartridges, cant print anything properly.
Tried to print a message from rootschat, half the lines not there and the e-mail address was, yes, PINK!.

How old is your printer but more importantly, how many pages have you printed with it? After a while, the printer head wears out.

I used to have a Canon Bubble inkjet, completely gone now, and it gave me years of good loyal service. However, at one stage I started having the same problems as you and I needed to replace the print head which is incorporated into the cartridge which holds the ink tanks (or what I would call cartridges  Roll Eyes) I'm including a photo with this post to make it clearer; the greeny box thing is the cartridge/print head.

When the head went for a second time, I was offered a b&w laser printer by my sister, who no longer needed it so I content myself with that while I have a full load of ink!!

And apart from when I bought the machine, I always used cheaper inks. I do think the quality was lower than the original but I never really wanted to print high quality pages so I didn't mind.

Good luck, falcybe

it is possible the cartridge has failed, another thing to try
print something in colour and it will then take you to properties,
increase the quality ie photo best and see if you get an improvement,
you stated you don't print a lot which is probably the problem and an original
isnt really going to help, it will probably cure this problem as another copy could,

i have had the "pink" problem a few times and cleaning and last resort changing the ink and then clean
again has always cured it
another thing to think of, have you recently had paper jams and had to pull paper through, it could be a small piece of paper is stuck, don't give up its nearly certain to me a minor problem Wink
