hlelp finding Delley after arrival in Quebec
« on: Tuesday 03 November 09 04:11 UTC (UK) »

I have recently discovered that my gg uncle Joseph West Delley and family emigrated from Liverpool bound for Quebec on board Montclare departing 19 June 1925.  His wife Mary and their two daughters Emma and Miriam, and their daughter Edith and her husband Arthur Holgate emigrated with him.    Their eventual destination is listed as Montreal. Joseph West was 59, Mary was 52, Emma was 26, Edith was 25 and Miriam was 24 years old. Arthur Holgate was 24.  I have found on the immigration records that their contact in Canada was their son John.  I didn't know he emigrated til I saw him on the record.
Can anyone help with any details on this family after they emigrated.  I can't find any emigration details for John.  I am particularly interested in whether any of the children married - Emma, Miriam or John to further my research and discover if there is a possibility of any living relatives in Canada.  Death records for the family would also be appreciated.  I don't mind doing the research but I have no idea where to start, so any links to suitable sites would also be appreciated.
Thank you

Looking at the entries on the ship's manifest it seems that this group was heading for John Delley at 164 Windermere Ave. Swansea, Ontario.

I was unfamiliar with Swansea and a google search shows that it is part of Toronto, Ontario.

Privacy laws in Canada limit access to birth, marriage and death records.  This link explains.

If they stayed in Toronto the Toronto library has an email Ask a Librarian feature and they will trace names or addresses in their city directories.  There is also a pay site for the Toronto Star newspaper (Pages of the Past) which can be a good source to search for birth, marriages and deaths.

Thanks Debbie

I will certainly look at these suggested sites and see if I can get any information.  I am finding it a lot harder to get information for this Canada side of the family.
