Have discovered on my fathers Little Brothers file that he had 2 uncles/cousins already in Aust - Qld - around 1920. Have no idea when they may have arrived - names found that we think are related are Charles Potter, Hale St Red Hill, Brisbane William Potter, Zillmere (14 kms north of Brisbane) The form is dated 1927. Could SKS with access to Qld records check this one out for me pls Thanks

Hi Jen, sorry but that is all I know, perhaps some clues as to Directories, etc that are available on line so I can do a search, etc. or libraries close by that might have details. All I know is what I posted and that was on the Barwell Boys/little Brother file at State Records. I have tried contacting cousins in England, but they dont even know their Aunts and Uncles and cousins who live in the same county. I did some research once and recall finding one of the names as aButcher. But silly me didnt record this on the file and now cant locate my info. Altho I am usually organized and record everything.....but have had a slip up with this one. Cheers

Dear Jen and Kris, you two must be Angels Could I ask a couple of more questions pls......where would I look for shipping supposedly around the late 1890's - I may be able to find some more info on arriving into the country. And.....is there a local family history group in the areas we have mentioned - Zillmere and red hill. Lastly, do you have a Sunday paper with a free section for "Can You Help". We have this in our Sunday paper and its great for writing in to find a connection with regard to FH. Thankyou both so much for all this information. Kindest regards Ros (Daisygirl)

My fathers name was Reginald James Potter. I have not yet found the connection of Charles and William, who I presume might be children of his father Josephs brothers or such. They may have come from Bedfordshire as that is where Joseph (my grandfather) came from. I cannot tell you any more. The Little Brothers was one of the schemes begun in the 1912-1914 era to bring British boys and later girls to Aust to work on farms, etc. My father never mentioned these people altho there is a possibility that he knew of them. I have asked an Uncle in UK and several cousins but they had never heard of these two Potter people before. Ros

Jen, sorry I did not put all details of Reginald James Potter in the email He was born in 1912 in Brighton, England. Came to Aust in 1929, died in Adelaide 1993. Served in the RAAF during the war. Not much else that I can tell you. Parents names were Joseph Potter and Mary Elizabeth Covington, both from Bedfordshire. Ros

I am assuming you got the record from the Little Brothers and it stated he had relatives in Australia? uncles or cousins which did it say?
Did he go to a home or into work strait away and did he go to Brisbane before he went to Adelaide?
Just trying to get a good idea.
The two Potters weare looking at were born 40 odd years before your dad, so a long time frame to be Uncles or cousins but not impossible.

Hi Jen, Sorry for delay - have the actual file now out of storage and it reads: Q. Have you any relatives or friends in Australia? ......YES Q. State Relationship......UNCLES Q. Give their full names and address........ Charles Potter Hale St Red Hill Brisbane William Potter, Zillmere. N,C,Yine Queensland
Dated...18.10.1927
So we are definite about them being Uncles. Obviously Joseph (Reg's father) knew about these uncles as he knew their addresses.
I do not understand what the N,C,Yine means, but that is exactly what is written on the "Enrolment Form"
Cheers Ros

Jen, missed this bit in reply..... As far as I know my father never ever went to Queensland to meet these Uncles. He arrived by ship in Adelaide and never actually left the state during is lifetime, with the exception of being in Victoria during the war in the RAAF. Ros
