I would be very grateful if someone could look at incoming passenger lists from NZ to England.
I have a Joseph William Sidaway born 1859 who leaves England twice,
the first time with wife Clara in 1921 the second time alone in 1938.
I would like to know when he returns, if Clara's with him and if possible the address he's returning to.

Hi Cember

I have had a look at the passenger lists, he seems to be called John as opposed to his full name of Joseph William - thats if I have the correct person.  Address given as Cradley Heath?

I cannot see him coming back prior to 1938 in the incoming passenger lists that I have access too.

There is a John Sidaway returning from the 1938 trip - returning August 1938, on the Remuera. He is aged 80 by now and down as Retired. Proposed address in the UK is C/O Mrs Shuck, Church Street, Cradley Heath, which ties in with the address he gives on the outgoing journey.  He gives NZ as his intended place of future residence as well as his last place of residence.

PS. there is a Clara Sidaway death registered in 1938 on the NZ BMD site, (age 75)

you do have the right one, Mrs Shuck was his sister. I'm assuming that as you don't mention Clara he was travelling alone. I have found a possible death registered for a Clara Sidaway in 1938 since the original post, it was quite a journey for a man of that age to undertake, he must have had a special reason, maybe he was bringing her ashes home.

Yes, I have just added that to the above post before I realised you had answered.

I saw also a death for a John Sidaway aged 85 in 1944.
