Have found the following on IGI

Christening
Sarah Lidgett / December 12, 1819 / Owersby, Lincs
Father: William Lidgett / Mother: Mary (no surname)

It's a possibility that Sarah is the Lidgett female that you are searching for, but there are quite a few other William/Mary Lidgett's in the Lincoln area.  I don't have access to any Lincs Records, but it is worth having a further look.
I don't know how or why the SYKES name comes into the equation.  I still feel that James Sykes is probably your James Curtis.  At the moment I cannot explain why.

1841 Census
HO107 /  Piece: 630  /  Book/Folio: 22/3   Page: 8
Claxby, Lincs

William Lidgitt / 60 / Agric. Labourer
Mary Lidgitt / 60
Sarah Lidgitt / 20
Sarah Sykes / 7
James Sykes / 5
George Lidgett / 4 mths

There is an amazing coincidence in 1851 in that on the next farm to William and Mary LIDGETT is a Sarah CURTIS 17 Gainsborough.  1841 shows her father to be a Robert CURTIS and she has no little brother called James. Sad

Hello Geoff-E.  Do you think we are making 'headway' on this family?  It sort of looks to me as though the contributors are getting closer to the original request for help.

Hello Geoff-E.  Do you think we are making 'headway' on this family?

Not really, if I'm honest Sad

1881 says Gainsborough
1871 says Grimsby
1861 says London? RG9/2389/50/6

That was 1861 of course. Smiley

It makes more sense than anything so far probably.  It's close to Grimsby anyway.

I have received this updated info from NZ. I have no idea if it will help. It is understood that James Curtis went to NZ in 1882. Perhaps that is a point to work back from. I don't have access to passenger lists anywhere that might help.

Anyway, this is the latest I can offer you;

"James Curtis married Mary Ann Brewster Clark 2 Apr1865 St James Great Grimsby Lincoln Eng.
George Curtis father   John Brewster father
As Mary Anns mother was Henrietta Clark she married Henry Moody after Mary was born so she would of only known Henry as her father. So this sounds correct. James and Marys first child was born 1868 but there could have been one that died if they had children straight away".

Dee

Sorry I hadn't noticed your James COURTAS in 1851 ... it does suggest a link with Claxby ... but we need to find something to link at least two of these names SYKES/LIDGETT/CURTIS or we are just left with loose ends, Smiley

James and Marys first child was born 1868 but there could have been one that died if they had children straight away".

Born and bap 16 July 1865, George Harry ... buried 3 August 1865 (14 days)
Born 12 Dec 1867, bap 15 Jan 1868, Mary Elizabeth

I've just noted that in 1881 two of their children were born Claxby!

I tried to follow John Lidgett back. I think this is him and Mary (indexed as Benj) in 1851;
HO107/2114/334/12
Interestingly there is a Sarah CURTIS, 17 in household above. Is this Sarah SYKES aged 7 in 1841 census?
