McCabe 1891 Completed
« on: Tuesday 03 November 09 13:35 UTC (UK) »

Hi,
Looking for Charles McCabe in London in 1891.
I have found the family in 1841,1851,1861 and 1881 in London
They were in Cheshire in 1871 where Charles McCabe was born in 1867.
Also found in 1901 in West Ham but he died in 1902.

I have tried all I can think of to find the family in 1891 his father is John McCabe born 1829 a Tailor and mother Lucy McCabe b 1835.

Thanks for any help offered.

Seems he was married twice. There's a marriage

24 Sep 1891 St Giles Camberwell
James McCabe, 24, Bachelor, Salesman, 35 Brookbank Rd Lewisham, father John McCabe Tailor
Lilla Constance Murray, 23, Spinster, 50 Vicarage Rd, father Edwin Murray Watchmaker
Witnesses Joseph Anderson Livingston and Edwin Murray

and a death

Lilla Constance McCabe age 28
Dec 1897 Edmonton 3a 196

(but I can't spot the marriage to Emily A)

Oh dear - glad you read the request properly Jen  Grin

Thanks for that genjen but I couldnt find him on that page of the census.

Tati, this gets very weird as the wife shown on the 1901 census is also a Murray my great grandmother for whom I have never found a marriage she appears to have had a penchant for christian name changes as in 1901 she is an emily A and in 1911 she is an Adalina E Murray and has so far eluded my search for her birth. I will have to get Charles birth cert to see if he is also a james.

Was Emily Lilla's sister? (I see Lilla has a sister Emily age 24 in 1891).

If so, maybe those 2 never married - I think it was illegal to marry one's deceased wife's sister.

(Adelaide E Murray - Dec 1866 Islington 1b 205 looks like a possible)

Thanks Tati thats one I was going to send for when the postal problems settle down abit.
Also as her first daughter was called Constance - a lot of coincidences also as you say a possibility of no marriage.

Thanks for that genjen but I couldnt find him on that page of the census.

Peter

He is definitely there but listed with his surname as Cabe, Charles M.

4, Tavistock St,

William Robinson, head, 26, Flower salesman, Hants, Aldershot
Louisa, wife, 30, kent
M. Matthews, servant 17
Charles Saville, boarder
Henry G Witney    "
William Job,          "
Charles M Cabe     "     G. Flower Salesman and Clerk, Cheshire, Nantwich
Henry Baker          "
Henry G Gentry      "

The lower case c in McCabe is either not there or very faint - there is a sort of dot where it should be. But if he pronouced his name "M-Cabe", I imagine that's how some people would spell it.
