Unread topics
« on: Tuesday 03 November 09 14:33 UTC (UK) »

If I miss a day for any reason I try to go into all unread topics to catch up on what I have missed. Frequently I am unable to access the several thousand pages as the internet is unable to display the page. Is it technically possible at some future review to break the unread topics into say groups of 3 to 4 days replies which would be more readily downloadable?
Hoping this can be looked into.

If you are only 'away' for a day or two, there wont be that many 'unreads' - maybe 7 or 8 pages max?

so are you clicking on 'All Unread', rather than the link at the top of the page ?

The problem is that sometimes, for no apparent reason and nothing that I have done, even if I don't log out before I have completed my reading, sometimes the system seems to log me out, so that I lose a series of postings, say a couple of pages at the end. I then go into all unread topics to try and retrieve them up to my last known session.

I seem to have hit on an answer to this from sheer fluke lol!

I was reading from page 1 onwards, but my the time I got to the last page quite often it had cleared & vanished.

One day I decided to work in 'reverse' and read the last page 1st (ie page 8 of 8 or whatever) and work backwards ............. works great & I no longer 'lose' posts cos they have vanished.

Will try that for day to day Gaillie, but it doesn't answer the problem of my posts being treated as though I have logged out even though I haven't, needing therefore to access all unread posts to try and catch the lot.

Thats cos as you were reading / referencing the threads on Page 1/2/3 etc, the internal tables were releasing them, so by the time you get to the penultimate pages, theres been a reshuffle and only unreferenced threads are left - not requiring all those pages to be displayed  Tongue
