hi everyone.....my name is paul, im 25 and im new to this......
im looking for any pictures of the kerrs and reids who lived in govan and anderston, and also any information i can get!
ive started to trace my family tree and have managed to get back to 1700's......i take my hat off to you all as it is not easy!!
my dad died when i was 17, and his mother and father(my gran and grandad) died long before me and my brothers and sisters were born so we never got to meet them.....and i dont know a lot of information about them. more than anything i would love to see a picture of my gran and grandad or any of thier relatives as i feel that i have something missing in my life....i know that probably sounds dramatic, but most people my age know, or have seen thier grandparents....i had neither.......i know its a longshot......but can anyone help??
i would be forever gratefull, i dont want to spend the rest of my life wondering who they were and what they looked like!
i will give some names and maybe that will help....
if not, then thanks for looking at my post anyway
here are the names
my dad - william reid - 1946-2002
my grandad - william reid - 1907 - 1965 (lived in 114 blackburn street, govan) my grandads parents were - angus reid(1870-) & catherine reid - nee brown(1875-) thiey lived in 160 blackburn street, govan, glasgow.
my grandmother - helen reid - 1914-1957 (maiden name, helen smith copland kerr) she lived in anderston when she was younger, but moved to govan when she married my grandfather. my grandmothers parents were - archibald mcvicar kerr(1881-1947) & annie kerr - nee copland(1887-) they lived at 22 lancefield quay, glasgow.
i hope this isnt to all over the place and confusing.
sureley someone one out there has pics of my grandparents and my great grandparents.......fingers crossed
thanks again for taking the time to read my post

Hello Paul,
Obtaining old photos of long dead relatives is not easy, but the only way I have been given some is when I have found living family members through my research or someone in the immediate family suddenly remembers that they have one. So, in other words, spread your research net far and wide. Instead of asking for photos online, try to put out your genealogy requests on as many sites as you can and you never know, someone (a second cousin, perhaps, or even someone more distant than that) may contact you, and may just have a photo of your family.
What about living relatives that you know of? Nobody has a photo? I would believe that actually, because my immediate family photos are few. If you do have cousins etc, try asking them if they have any old photos, or if they know of someone in the family that does (one of my aunts has a few, which she will not even scan ).
I recently was given a photo of my mother's beloved grandmother by my cousin, who had it all along, and he did know I am researching the family tree, but didn't think to pass it on until I specifically asked. You never know what is hiding in people's cupboards!
All the best,
Nina

I just took a look on Genesreunited and some of the names you mention seem to appear on trees on there. Might be worthwhile pursuing that further?

Hi Paul, I am related to you. My mother is Catherine Speirs. her mother was Elizabeth Reid whose parents were Angus Reid and Catherine Brown. Her parents John Brown and Eliza Duffie. My mother lived with her Grandparents for quite a few years when she was little while her own parents were in the United States. I don't know how much I can fill in for you but my mother is still alive and can recall quite a bit about the Reid family. I have a few photos I could scan for you. Please get in touch with me on here and I can try and contact you by email privately
