Virgin pc guard

After recent upgrading to this software, my computer now takes 10 minutes to boot up, while previously it took around 4. OK once it's going. Any thought please?

You will need to get Task Manager open as soon as possible by pressing Ctrl + Alt +Delete to discover which process is using all your resources.

Of course, it is likely to be PC Guard but you will need to confirm it.

If it is PC Guard then it is probably doing a 'quick scan' before it will let you do something useful.  You could check the options to see if you can stop it scanning at boot time, otherwise you have to make a decision whether it is actually worth having such a 'resource hog' on your computer or whether you should get something else instead.

I've helped quite a few people who have picked up nasties while using it. It appears to be very weak in detecting trojans. You can't beat a good complete security suite. Some people run down Norton, I've used it for years and the 2009 version is by far the best one ever, you can get it off ebay for about £15, your PC's security has got to be worth that a year.

My 3 favourites are Eset, Kaspersky and Sophos.  Eset has the best detection rate for "in the wild" viruses.
