Silver Screen Fright - Packard Bell Users help needed.
« on: Tuesday 03 November 09 15:27 UTC (UK) »

Hi, Silver Screen Fright.

Hope someone clever out there who knows Packard Bell PC's can help please.

I have a Packard Bell BV Desktop PC,
Intel® Pentium R D CPU 2. 2.80 GHz. Speed 2793 MHz
Operating System  is Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition. (SP3).

My PC works fine usually but 3 times during the last 6 weeks or so,I have turned it on and this silver screen appears.

My programmes are all listed neatly on the left and a message reads ' Windows is setting up your personal settings '.

This is followed by a Packard Bell window entitled 'Set up my PC' and showing a wizard.
In the Set-up Wizard window (see attached)  a chart shows about 4 options  and I have noticed  that the Master CD/DVD creator is highlighted to configure --is that trying to tell me something??

The instruction on the bottom of the window tells me to either EXIT, RUN FULL WIZARD or RUN MISSED STEPS.

As I don't understand why I'm getting this Packard Bell wizard window appearing, I have just been exiting the window, it then takes me back to the silver screen and I then shut down my PC for a few moments.

When I start the PC up again,I get the normal Windows screen and everything carries on as usual.

As my PC is set up anyway, I don't know why this is happening.

I'm not a bit technical, so as long as it keeps resuming normal service after a shutdown from the silver screen, I'm happy to live with it.

I just wondered  if anyone has got  any ideas or has experienced this problem themselves.

I have Norton 2009 installed for protection.

Cheers

Barbara.

Forgot to attach picture of Wizard Window I get - doing so now.

According to this:

http://support.packardbell.com/uk/item/index.php?i=instr_setupmypc&ppn=PB42B00001

You need to answer the question about Configure BELGACOM internet access.

Uncheck that box if you do not want it.

Hi downside,

Once again thanks for your advice.

I'll look at the link you've given me and hope I can work out what to do next.

Cheers

Barbara.
