Plymouth - DUNSTERVILLE/CLEATHER
« on: Tuesday 03 November 09 17:20 UTC (UK) »

I am descended from Thomas Cleather of Plymouth who married Ann Dunsterville, also of Plymouth, somewhere around 1800 (one son was born 1806).  Could anyone find their marriage?

Ann's father was Bartholomew Dunsterville, surgeon who I think married a Joan Henderson, and her grandfather Elias Dunsterville, blockmaker (died 1776).  I am looking for any dates for Ann Dunsterville, Bartholomew Dunsterville, or Elias Dunsterville.

Elias had two brothers Richard and Edward and a sister Lucy (who I think married a Coulton).  Apart from Bartholomew he had three sons William, Thomas and Michael and four daughters Lucy, Mary Ann, Priscilla & Rebecca.  I have this information from his will, but no dates.

I have no information on siblings for Ann.

Any help would be gratefully received.

Many thanks for the help - it has saved me a lot of legwork.  I don't suppose you came across any other Dunstervilles in your trawl through the records?

Any Dunsterville marriages you can dig up would be great, if it doesn't take too much of your time.

Thanks,

Hi Nick,

I am descended from Thomas Cleather and Ann Dunsterville through their son Thomas Cleather (1806-1840), who married Mary Elizabeth Inglis.  Amongst their children was Georgina Inglis Cleather (abt 1834 - 1905).  She married a James Fraser and the youngest of their 13 children was my great grandmother Amy Georgina Fraser.

Thomas Cleather is the only child of Thomas Cleather and Ann Dunsterville that I know of.  If I am reading your post correctly it sounds as though you are descended from another child of theirs.  Would you mind giving me details of any other siblings or descendants?

I am happy to swap information with you.  You will find a tree of mine on Genes Reunited which (if you are a member which costs only a nominal amount) I can give you permission to view, or alternatively if you let me have your contact details I can e-mail you a family tree.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Julia

Hi Julia

John DUNSTERVILLE - son of Bartholomew (1776 - 1831) - if you want to read more go to Google Books and The Church in Madras Being a History of Ecclesiastical and of the East India Company in the Presidency of Madras from 1805 to 1835.

I am trying to find out which sister of Bartholomew DUNSTERVILLE married someone with the surname JACK and had a daughter  Louisa Dunsterville  JACK c1784 - June 1827

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks once again this is a great help.  Ann's baptism date is useful she was 'supposedly born in Ceylon in 1814 when her father was serving in the first Ceylon Regiment ... lots more work to be done on this.

Kind regards
