mauldille st?
« on: Tuesday 03 November 09 20:21 UTC (UK) »

hi all.

on a death cert i found recently for an uncle, his place of residence is listed as (it's kinda hard to make out on the image)but looks like mauldille st east. his fathers address is listed the same. the death took place in bridgeton in 1927. does anyone know of this street or a simmilar sounding street name in the bridgeton area. i searched the glasgow story maps but to no avail.

                           cheers.doch.

Mauldslie Street?
Undecided
Just a suggestion, but I'm not sure it's the right part of Glasgow.

Not yet - I'm still looking at the old OS maps on the National Library of Scotland site.  I've not found it on a modern map.  Sad

Hi doch and Nell

Mauldslie Street in Partick has been renamed Meadow Road, W1 from http://www.glasgowguide.co.uk/info-streetschanged2.html

You might also find something on the family in the 1913-14 Valuation Rolls if they were at that address then www.theglasgowstory.com/valsearch.php?search=99&what=&where=mauldslie+street

hi nell and monica.

i found mauldslie st on the on the valuation rolls in ward 03 for bridgeton, calton ,camlachie. i still cant see where the street is on the map. my uncle, samuel docherty died aged 7 months in belvidere hospital in 1927. my father, grandfather g/grandfather were all reared in bridgeton,so i cant see the partick connection.

Partick versus Bridgeton didn't seem to add up, I have to admit, but I couldn't find anything alse that sounded like it.

Back to square 1?

The issue of location is confusing and I wonder if the change of street names guide is confusing further. Working from the 1901 census, there is a Mauldshire Street in Partick and a Mauldslie Street in Camlachie.

The fact that the Valuation Rolls link Bridgeton, Calton, Camlachie together makes sense given they were next to each other www.douglasbrown.co.uk/glw74map.html

By the look of it doch your family were in Camlachie at the time of registrations you have but still no closer to finding the location of the street on a map are we  Undecided

There is the remains of Mauldslie Street in Camlachie which is very near the Bridgeton area of Glasgow.

This is a link to a brilliant 1935 map of Glasgow that another RChatter posted some time ago: www.artus-fh.co.uk/source/Early Maps.html

Camlachie is top right of Sheet 4 and bottom Sheet 2. I can see some of the streets such as Stamford Street and London Road mentioned in the Valuation Rolls in the vicinity of Mauldslie Street, but can I find Mauldslie Street  Huh

Sorry Sancti, posts crossed over (come back red alert  Grin). That makes sense that it would be off London Street given the way the Valuation Roll entries are listed. Well done  Smiley

I found Maudslie Street on an enumerator's walk in 1881 close to London Street addresses and Porter Street I think.

hi all.

thanks for your reply's. i have a good idea where the street is now. going by sancti's map it must have been in the shadow of celtic park, but i can't understand why it doesn't show on the valuation map.

hi monica,i couldn't see the maps on your link as it says the page cannot be found.

Try this link which is specifically for the Glasgow but includes a link for the other maps as well  http://www.artus-fh.co.uk/Glasgow%201935/Glasgow%201935.html

It looks like the Mauldslie Street on Streetmap is a new development because it is not showing up on the 1935 map on Monica's link.
