SNELL Chulmleigh/Bampton
« on: Wednesday 04 November 09 08:02 UTC (UK) »

Hi
I m a Rootschat virgin and a bit overwhelmed at where to start!I have searched my surname but the member it shows as researching them in my area doesn't seem to have any posts for Devon... so maybe you can guide me?
Story so far... my G G G grandparents : Edward B C1806 and Ann Snell BC 1801 Innkeepers Lamb Inn Chulmleigh 1841 to 1861 census, Ann d 1866 Bampton, but buried Chulmleigh.
Son Henry Snell b1827 Chulmleigh became schoolmaster at Hatherleigh then moved to Bampton where he ran a school. He married Susan Codner born St Mary church 1826. Sons William b1855, Edward b1853 , Frank b1859 ,Kate b 1860 Annie B 1862 . All seem to have become middle class merchants and lived in London which is where my grandmother was eventually born; Eleanor Snell B1891. How do I find out if anyone is else is researching this family?

Wow thats fast thanks!
I know Ann Snell was buried at St Magdalen Church Chulmleigh 22 Sep 1866, I guess husband Edward must be there too... is it possible to find out where there graves are in the churchyard, or do we have to go round each one, more to the point I suppose will the graves have been reused?
Do we have anything on my Grandfather Henry Born Chulmleigh c 1827?

He became a schoolmaster of a boarding school in Bampton, but was an insurance salesman too... was that normal to do more than 1 job?

I wonder. Ann Snell was wife of Edward Snell who was born in 1806... right timing to be brother/cousin perhaps! More than that I don't have at the moment. Lets keep each other informed of any links?
