Is anyone able to look up the earliest occurence of CROSS in this parish? If possible, any additiional CROSS information would be useful too. Thank you. Pat W

Hello Pat,

This is a big question.

Looking at the Milton-under-wychwood parish register transcripts suppled by the OFHS, I can only find one single entry. And that is; baptism Sept 1 1893 Winifred May daughter of Peter Edward and Sarah Emma. Father's occupation is given as Factory foreman.

The Parish records for Milton only go back to 1854, prior to that, and I'm making an assumption here, you need to be looking in Shipton-under-Wychwood. If my assumption is correct the earlist record I can find in Shipton is the Baptism and subsequent burial of Thomas and William Crosse (yes with an "e") sons of Willm on July 16th 1595. Their ages are not given.

The earliest marriage that I can find was on June 24th 1622 and was between Rafe( printing of forename is unclear but it looks like Rafe to me) Crosse, again with an "e", and Agnes Pitchell. I have no other information regarding this marriage.

Again this information was taken from the Oxfordshire Family History Society's Parish register transcript CD covering the Chipping Norton Reg District with Shipton being on Volume 2 and Milton being on Vol 3.

Hope this is of help
Chris.

Thanks, Chris, I believe that is going to be very helpful. I am glad to know there are some Crosses in Shipton so early on. Thanks so much for your help, Rootschatters never known to fail. Best wishes, Pat W
