Patrick Ryan
« on: Wednesday 04 November 09 13:14 UTC (UK) »

Help needed?

My Great Gran was Annie/Ann Ryan DOB March 1874?

In 1889 Lived at 95 Cowder St Toxteth.

She Married George Tierney on the 14 Feb 1899 at St Bernards RC Church Toxteth.

On the Marriage Cert she had Father listed as Patrick Ryan Trade GreenGrocer.

I have had so many blind alleys on Patrick I have spent years going down the wrong route.

Can any one point me in the right direction??

Presumably you know for sure the date of birth and place she was born from the certificate - are we to assume that it was Lancashire? or can you be more specific than that?

I don't see a Cowder Street in Liverpool, the 1881 census is searchable by streetname, so perhaps if you could post a small portion of the certificate showing the address we might be able to work out if it should be a different name.

As you have the exact date and church of marriage, presumably you have the details of the witnesses, is there any chance that either of them were family members?

Both the 1881 census on Ancestry and the 1901 census http://www.1901censusonline.com have occupation searches available.  I see only one Patrick Ryan with occupation "grocer" of any sort and he was born Ireland and living in Bradford on all censuses between 1881-1901.

It could be an indication that Patrick was made up on the marriage certificate to save face as it were, or do you have him named on her birth certificate in 1874? and which censuses do you have her on, please provide references rather than addresses.
