Mary Greaves married James Brammall in 1878 and they are living at Magnum (Holme, Hade Edge) near Holmfirth in 1881 with their daughter Hannah aged 8 months.
Before my horrible computer crash I had looked at the 1891 and 1901 censuses - they are still living at Magnum and I have noted they have 3 further children; Jonathan (1882/3), Herbert (1885/6) and Alfred (1888/9).
I have just been sent details of the 1911 census which says James and Mary had a total of 6 children of which only 3 are surviving. Herbert and Alfred are in the family household in 1911 so, if two children were born and died between the censuses, then either Hannah or Jonathan must have died. I could not find Hannah in 1901 so it may be her but, unfortunately, I cannot find a death for either of Hannah or Jonathan and I have a possible marriage for Hannah in 1903 and Jonathan in 1908.
I can see no reason why the details they gave of the number of children that died would be incorrect.
If someone has the time may I please ask if they can double check if my notes from the 1891 and 1901 censuses are correct and suggest if either Hannah or Jonathan died.

Thank you, Jen. I should like full details please as I lost practically everything which wasn't written on a piece of paper a few months ago.
Any idea which one may have died?

Thank you, Jen
If you are correct, which I am sure you are, then both Hannah and Jonathan are alive which means only 2 children died. I know of one, presumed one was born and died between the censuses which left a further death.
I would have thought they would remember quite clearly how many children they had and how many had died.

Just as a point of interest, in re:- Brammalls of Magnum, Hade Edge- there are a lot of Brammall graves in the cemetery at Hade Edge Chapel- may be of some use. NB- if you make a visit, wear v. warm clothing- it will be cold!( but a truly lovely place, nonetheless).

First of all, thank you to everyone for their replies.
I do not have the birth certificates; Mary Greaves is not in my direct line being my GG Aunt. All the Greaves, including the females and their husbands, were all living next door to each other at Magnum in 1901 and I was trying to see if they were still in close proximity in 1911.
James Brammall and Mary Greaves threw me as surely they would have remembered how many children they had.
Hannah Brammall was not in the family household when Jen found the family in 1901. Is she living somewhere else or did she die between 1891 and 1901?
If, as bykerlads says, there are a lot of Brammall graves at Hade Edge Chapel then presumably there were several Brammall families so the Hannah who married in 1903 may not be 'my' Hannah.
Bykerlads, do you know where the records for Hade Edge Chapel are kept?
Thank you.

HolmeMoss, I would love to get my hands on the records for Hade Edge Chapel - there will be my christening and a lot of mentions of my family, I guess.( some of the original Magnum families: Sykes, Mitchell, Briggs ...).My father was born at THe Terrace, Hade Edge and I lived there as a baby/toddler) I met by chance Maurice Garlick at the chapel last Dec.- he is much involved in its running and was kind enough to let me look inside and showed me a list of Hade Edge men who served in WW2, including my dad. I have the impression that the records may be at the Archives in Wakefield but I haven't had the chance to follow them up. What does give one pause for thought is that the entire settlement of Magnum/Gooseholes has disappeared since the 1950's.Do you happen to know who opened and owned the original quarries and who named them using Latin and French: Magnum Bonum, Ne plus Ultra, Sans Pareil.
