Irish Historic Maps Online
« Reply #1 on: Monday 17 April 06 18:40 UTC (UK) »

Hi,

For anyone needing a local Ordnance Survey map from the 1840s they are now online at

www.irishhistoricmaps.ie

Easy to use and pay to view (choice of access time length)
Colour and black and white

Really valuable source as well as really interesting seeing what has gone and siting of forts, historic buildings and things like turnpikes!

Townland names included.

Happy hunting!

Ireland's History in Maps is an interesting site which was created bt Dennis Walsh. The site  contains Genealogical, Geographical and Historical information with a special focus on the Ancient and Medieval
Irish Tribes and Septs.

The site contains sections on ... Baronies of Ireland; Castles of Ireland; Free, Online Surname Histories
at GoIreland; Norman and Cambro-Norman Surnames of Ireland; Old Irish-Gaelic Surnames and Surname Connections to the Irish Counties

Hello all,

I don't see the following on the Resources list so here is the link to the Taylor & Skinner 1878-83 Ireland road maps.
The book also lists the upper crust & military subscriber surnames.

I found it a very interesting read.

Good hunting.
