Byrnes
« on: Wednesday 04 November 09 19:04 UTC (UK) »

Hi...I'm wondering if anyone can help with the following:

I have 3 Byrnes....2 brothers and a sister.

John Byrne (c. 1850-?) who married a Mary.
James Byrne (c. 1843-1920) who married an Ellen and had 11 Children.
Elizabeth...who married a Richard Stephenson.

Has anyone any information about this family and particularly about their parents.

Thanks,
Tom.

Father's name and occupation should be listed on all the children's marriage certificates. If you know their religion and where they lived (parish if not actual townland) you could check to see if there are any surviving church records listing their baptisms, etc.

Hi...some additional information on the Byrne family that someone may be able to add to.....

Matthew Byrne, son of James Byrne and Ellen Byrne (nee Byrne), born 1/10/1881 Ballinglen and married Mary Ann ? in 1905.
Matthew worked in Fogartys flour mills in Aughrim.
Matthew died 10/10/1959 and his wife died 27/6/1951 or 1957
Matthew and Mary are buried in Killaveny near Tinahely.

Their children were:

James b. 1909
John b. 1911
Myles and Matthew who died in infancy
Eileen b.c. 1920, d. 22/4/2001 and who married a Laurence Byrne b.c. 1914 and d. 22/4/1977 of Rednagh, Aughrim.
Eileen and Laurence are buried in Annacurragh.
Mary, Born c. 1877.
The story is that she went to the United States to care for the children of a doctor that was emigrating with his family.
She married a McAllister in the U.S., and after his death she returned to Ireland, and lived in Rednagh/Roddenagh, outside Aughrim.
She died 20/5/1951. I don't know where she is buried.
Elizabeth born 17/7/1892 Ballinglen.
In 1911 census she is living in Ballinglen with her widowed father.
In 1926 she married Mark Byrne, an ex-RIC man, who was the son of Mark Byrne, a policeman.
Mark Byrne's address was given as Carrigroe.
Mark Byrne died 21/3/1957 in Killballyowen, Aughrim, aged 86 so born c.1871.
Elizabeth died 13/2/1960.
They are buried in Preban graveyard with a recently erected headstone.
I am looking for information on Mark Byrnes family as well...

Any information that can add to this would be great.

Thanks,

Tom.
