Arnold Kuhn Master Baker

Looking for any information on Arnold Kuhn, master baker and confectioner.

Arnold born Switzerland (c1882 according to 1911 census) (Nothing on IGI)
Married Kate Eley June quarter 1907 marriage registered Fulham.
1911 census Arnold and Kate are in business 118 - 120 Guildford Street Chertsey (possibly restaurant and bakery)
Arnold gives his age as 29 (b c1882) born Switzerland
Kate gives her age as 31 (b c1880) born Tiptree Essex - however there is a listing (free bmd) for a Kate Eley born 1869 registered March quarter 1869 in Malden Essex (Kate is known to have "fibbed about her age when she married!)

One child from the marriage - still living.

Any information about Arnold or his business would be appreciated.  His date of death is not known but he was about 84? when he died.

Who does Kate Eley give as her father on the marriage cert?

1881 has 2 Kate Eley's in Essex
one age 4 with parents Joseph and Catherine (which would make her a little older than stated at marriage)
and one age 12 with parents Arthur and Sarah (which would be the one you found the birth for, and would make her a lot older than she stated at marriage)

As yet the marriage certificate is not to hand - I have requested that the family concerned (Kate's daughter-in-law) apply for it.

All she knows is that Kate "fibbed" about her age and was condiderably older than she said.  It was apparently considered a wonder that she in fact was able to produce a child - so going by the 1881 it could be either.

1911 Kate says she was born Tiptree, Essex.

Thanks for the info I'll have a look at the 1881 also.

Certificates take quite a while to reach here!!

May I send you a pm - there is a clue to the child aged 4 which involves a living relative.

Having consulted the map I'm pretty sure Kate born c1869 Tiptree - registered Maldon - is the correct one.  The place of Witham has rung a bell - Arthur Kuhn may have had a bakery and restaurant there - before or after Chertsey I don't know.  Also if this Kate was 38/39 in 1907 she would have been about 44 when her child was born.

The other Kate would have been 37.
