Hello,i am new to this site,so please be patient with me +i'm a slow typer!!!
I am looking for help with finding info on my great grandad,William Joseph Leetch, born Belfast,Antrim area?around1860-62.That's the easy bit,on his marriage cert his father is Francis Leetch, timber merchant.
The marriage was in Manchester 1890.The earliest i can find him in Manchester is 1891 census, his first child was born in 1886?
The hard part is that as children we were told that the Leetch name was changed on the way over from Belfast.William was a strong orange man we were led to believe.
I would love some help and guidance.

Hi,
Welcome to rootschat. I have had slight trouble with your names but I have found a Thomasina Leetch born to Francis Leetch and Sarah McGuire on 1 Mar 1865 in Belfast.
Using this I found that Sarah McGuire had married Francis Leitch (sic) on 23 Jul 1856 in Donegal Street Presbyterian Church, Belfast.  Might this have been the name change-probably poor spelling.

Regards

te]       Hi,thanks for the prompt reply,i will hang on to that information. We were told the surname was changed on purpose. It seems the IRA were supposed to be after him. Both my great grandad and his son were very strong  Protestants.Another story for the misspelling was tax reason's.We know nothing about this man,who was also quit secretive. Is there anyway i can check for Francis Leitch/Leetch being a timber merchant? thanks again for your help.
   regards
