rutter family in North East
« on: Wednesday 04 November 09 20:53 UTC (UK) »

We are looking for the Maiden name of the  Mother of my Grandmother Mary Alice Rutter said to be born about 1875 in Felling/Windy nook Durham. Cannot find a birth cert. despite many searches.Mary Alice married my Grandfather Thomas Jackson in 1895 in St Oswalds Hebburn. Her father stated as Thomas Rutter a Blacksmith. She appears in 1901 and 1911 with her family and died in 1920  in the district of Tunstall we are 'silver surfers' and could really do with some help.

(Love the term, 'silver surfer' )  Grin

Do you have the marriage cert with address and names of Witness on it?
Also, was her father said to be deceased on the marriage cert?

Cheers

Hello and welcome to rootschat. Everyone here will try to help  Wink

I was going to ask the same questions as Ambly re the witnesses - sometimes these can be a great help.

Secondly, do you have her as born Felling and Windy Nook in different censuses or family stories.

1901 has two Mary A Jacksons - one born Felling and one born Windy Nook  Huh. However, one is living Hebburn - is she yours?

Thanksyou for replying. We have Mary Alice Jackson nee Rutter in the 1901 Census. B.Felling. Living at 79 Railway Street Hebburn. this is definately her, and also in 1911 living at 13 Smith Street Ryhope with Joseph Rutter Jackson ( our. father). We think it could be her living as a visitor with the Robertson Family in newcastle in 1891, as Alice Rutter as she was known as Alice. We were told Windy nook was the same as felling..hence the confusion.

Hello,
yes I saw that Alice Rutter as a visitor and tried to match her up for 1881  Huh

I saw one Alice - nowhere near Felling or Windy Nook (they are close to each other according to map)

1881 RG11; Piece: 4946; Folio: 48; Page: 61

However, that one appears in 1891 though so don't think it is her (and her father John was a blacksmith  Sad)

The one you found does at least give Felling. Very odd and frustrating  Roll Eyes
