Just noting also that Archives New Zealand (Dunedin office) hold two divorce files in the name of Wilbur Zealand BARTON (dated 1947 and 1965).

i live in nsw, a friend of mine comes from nz, and was interested in trying to find out history on wilbur zealand barton, her father, all she know is he came from either england or scotland and married twice of that she know of, where he was buried and what year he died,, and wouldl like to learn more of her fmaily hisory and would appreciate any help or information, so i thought i owuld try and help her as she has no computer

... I see you are currently online .... my last post was made before I spotted your message. 
Ok ... the best thing to do at this point, is for your friend to purchase a "printout" record of Wilbur's first marriage.
This marriage record will contain information which Wilbur himself has supplied - including his birth place, his parents names - (and as such it is more reliable than information from a death certificate).
Go to the NZ BDM link (see my previous post).
There will be no reference number available on that site for Wilbur's (1st) marriage because it was after 1928 which is the cut off date for the NZ Historical BDM indexes.
However, it is still possible to purchase this record (details are on the BDM website). Sending you a PM.
