Hi

Sorry,been out

George parents were Thomas & Jane.

Thomas was a Fisherman,if that helps.

Jane died 1836.

The only sighting  other i have of George is 1841 in the Workhouse.

I have looked through marriages in England & came up with nothing.

Thank-you

NSW Electoral rolls have the following entries for George Nelson MITCHELL:

1936 labourer at Chevy Chase, Uralla (no other Mitchells at same address)

1937 lab, Presbyterian Boys' Hostel,Tamworth

1943 labourer, 27 Rawson Ave, Tamworth.  At the same address is Edella Thelma MITCHELL, home duties

1949 concrete finisher, Gundamar, Mulgoa (subdistrict Penrith).Edella is there also

1954 labourer, 27 First St, Warragamba Dam.  Plus Edella.

Marriage for this couple:
George Helson (sic) MITCHELL to Edella Thelma WILSON, Tamworth 1939 (Reg 5165)

This is the extent of my access to the rolls. This is obviously not your chap but the name is so similar it is possibly a descendant.

There are a couple of other chaps with the same name:

George Nelson MITCHELL b 5 May 1906 Hastings, d Dec 1986 Hastings and Rother (from England and Wales Death Index)

George Nelson MITCHELL b Mar qr 1852 Hastings (Free BMD)

This just seems to muddy the waters, really!

I see your other thread looking for a George Nelson MITCHELL in 1875.  Lots of them in Hastings, it seems!

Hi Judith

Thank-you for all your hard work.

The name George Nelson Mitchell came down through the generations.

The one you found born 1852 was my OH`s Greatgrandfather, his Dad was Henry, brother to George who went to Australia.

Hopefully it was the same there.

There is a WW2 record for
George Nelson MITCHELL, born 12 Oct 1907, CHATHAM ENGLAND
Place of enlistment - TAMWORTH NSW : NoK - G MITCHELL

who would seem to be the chap in the census entries.

This has not been digitised but can be (for a fee)

Click on the NameSearch at the bottom of the page next to the photo of the man.

Hi Judith

This is getting very interesting.

Geoegr Nelson Mitchell born 1852 had a son George Nelson Mitchell born 1875.

We have him on the 1901 census,in the Navy, docked in Bermuda.
From our NA ,i downloaded his Navel Records.

Then know more info until i found his death in Chatham. He was a Rigger at Chatham Dockyards.

I will apply for George Nelson  born Chatham & the one in Hastings 1906 birth certs

Is there any chance of finding info on George Nelson who came to Aus aroung 1858?

So many George Nelson`s i`ll be having nightmares Smiley

Thank-you again

So far I have had no joy in finding him in Australia but will keep looking .

What was the name of the brother who died in 1908 whose obituary mentions him going to Australia?

Hi Judith & Jenn

Henry had 2 brother`s Thomas & George Nelson.

I have found Thomas ,his marriage & on  the English census.

The words from the Obit .

Another brother went out to Australia over 50 years ago after making several voyages,it is not known if he is still alive .

The passport info i found maybe is wrong,i`m sorry if i`ve sent you on a wild goose chase Embarrassed

Thank-you
