Hi Colette, First we need to establish where you are talking about. There are two places named Cradley, one near Malvern and one in the Black Country, about 30 miles apart, also a place called Cradley Heath. Your question appears under the County of Staffordshire so can we assume that you mean Cradley Heath? Historically, the two Cradleys were in Herefordshire and Worcestershire respectively. Only Cradley Heath was in Staffs. If its my Cradley, in the Black Country, then I may be able to help...

Colette,
OK.
Cradley High Street no longer exists, neither the name nor most of the buildings. It was re-named Colley Lane many years ago, and in the 1960s virtually all the buildings on the east side were demolished, to make way for a housing development that was so unsuccessful that it too was demolished, about 6/7 years ago. I am not at all sure that there is a bakery there now, in fact, I am fairly sure that there isn't, but I'll check for you. I have many Hingleys in my family tree not least my 3 x great grandmother) so I would be interested to find out anything you find out about Basil. Also, you may like to take a look at our Cradley Links web site: www.cradleylinks.co.uk
