I wouldn't worry too much about the connectors.

You can get DVI to VGA or VGA to DVI adaptors from your local PC shop.

You can, but there are pitfalls for the unwary.......  DVI connectors have both an analogue and a digital connection.  If you only have a VGA connector on your PC, it will be giving out analogue signals, and unfortunately not all monitors with a DVI connector accept analogue signals via the DVI connector. 

Or to put it more simply, with some LCD screens, they won't work.
