Great-Grandmother for Dating and Colour?

Hi All

I'd love to see if anyone could help provide a date (and possibly a bit of colour? I've tried, but not very sucessfully!) for this lovely photo of my great-grandmother. I can tell that it's probably 1900-14, but a more specific date would be brilliant.

Thats a grand old bonnet she has there Smiley   Not certain and only guessing but could this have been taken in preperation for her wedding perhaps?

It's too late now but i'll be giving this a go at some colouring tomorrow Smiley

Hi, it certainly looks like a wedding portrait but I don't think it is. She didn't get married until 1914, and although I don't know the date of the photo exactly it certainly looks earlier than that!

Oooh, what a fabulous photo! I think around 1905 or so, judging by the hair, the neckline, and the width of the hat brim.

Could we see the whole thing please? Including the corners...and if there is anything printed on the back could we see that too...everything's a clue to dating.

These large hats with the small brim were a short lived fashion from China's date to about 1910 so,1905-10.

Hi Everyone

Thanks for the information regarding the date, 1910 seems around right because (I think) she was born around 1888, and 1905 would be a little bit too early. There was nothing on the back, and if I remember correctly the corners of this photo were rounded - the image had been pasted onto a piece of hard board.

As you've all been so helpful, could anyone suggest a date on this photo of the same lady? I'm assuming it was taken a few years later (maybe this is the engagement photo?)

The 2nd. is around 1914 when this hairstyle began to fade & skirts became a little shorter.1912-14.
