Butcher and Locksmith
« on: Thursday 05 November 09 23:55 UTC (UK) »

Hi ,I am trying to find information on my Gt Aunt Flora Pole b.1879 in Shrewsbury.
She married twice. 1st husband was Percy H Salter,I don't have any dates for him ,only their marriage in 1916. He was a Butcher in Shrewsbury about the time of their marriage.
Her 2nd husband was Job Williams b.1876 ,He was a White Smith and Locksmith.I was told that he was Jewish. They married in 1925. They lived in a very large house on the river in Shrewsbury.  I am trying to find any information on the two husbands businesses, where they were trading from etc.
Does any one know anything about these two men or have connections with them.Or does anyone know where I can find references for them.
Thanks
Yvonne

It is possible that Percy H Salter was born in 1888 in Uckfield, Sussex as there is someone with his name in the 1891 census for Shropshire.  He was the son of Benjamin and Ann.  Benjamin was a chemist born in Brompton, Shropshire and Ann was born in Dudley.  In 1901 there was a P H Salter in a school in Wem, Shrophire, a student.  Free BMD gives a birth in Uckfield for a Percy Howard Salter in 1887.
