I am helping a freiend with her research who is just starting out, and her mother Lived at Trelawnyd, her father was William Williams. Margaret married in Lancashire and lived in Chorlton Medlock raising 3 children
My friend says that her mother lived in a row of cottages called The Walks.
I have tried looking for this place in the 1901 census but not had any luck finding it. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated as there are no certs as yet. I have found the marriage reference I think in 1931 in Lancashire but the cert would only give the fathers name which we already know
Thanks
Edna

Hi Edna
Have I got this right?
Margaret Williams' father was William Williams
Margaret lived in The Walks, Trelawnyd
Do you know when Margaret was born - even approximately would help
What exactly are you trying to find out?
Linda

Hi clematised, The marriage certificate would also give her father's occupation and as these are very common names, any extra information is always useful

As far as we are aware Margaret was born there at Trelawnyd and as she married in 1931 we are assuming she would be about 20 but exact age is not known yet
So Far we have William Williams and possible wife Jane Children William,James,Nell,Margaret , not in any order of birth.
Margaret married Herbert Harry Davis of Nottingham born 1904 married at Chorleton Medlock, I have found a ref for his name, spouse Williams 1931 Jun qtr 8d 215 at Manchester South, and they had three children births found for Irlam Lancs in 1934/38/43
This is all we have so far, we will send for the marriage cert.
I had forgotten the father trade was on the marriage cert thanks for that.
I thought if I could trawl through the census for Trelawnyd I may see something for this address but a long shot I know.
I dont have the 1911 sub yet.
Thanks Edna

Just in the middle of looking, i did a search for margaret 1st born abt 1910 but no matches, then i searched for william williams in newmarket (aka trelawnyd). The first one i have come accross (1/3) the family is living in Mostyn Terrace, i don't know if in the village it was known as something else or not, there was a daughter margaret who was born about 1904, i dont know if you would consider that too old to be yours? William was a lead miner
The other 2 are dead ends im affraid do you think that 1904 margaret could be the one you are looking for?

It could be possible as I have no birth date as yet, and with the childrens ages she would still be in childbearing age born that year.
Thank you

Hello Edna, I was about to suggest that your freind's mother might be mistaken about "The Walks" as there were no cottages there when I was brought up in Trelawnyd in the 50's. Neither is there anything visible on my 1870s OS map. When I was a boy, The Walks was a track running below The Gop Hill above the village. I've also looked at various censuses in the past and don't recall seeing any properties there. However, I've now looked at the aerial view on Google maps, and it shows the faint outlines of what may have been cottages. I've got a couple of older relatives, born and bred in Trelawnyd so will ask them if they recall anything, when I see them. I've found 2 William Williams' in the 1901 census, both lead miners. One age 46, lived in Mostyn Terrace, which was a row of cottages, wife Jane, 36 and children James Owen 6, Gladys 2, Mary Edith 7 months. The other William lived at Bryn Hyfryd, whilst closer to The Walks, is not a row of cottages. If it's any help, I can check the Parish Records when I visit Hawarden, sometime soon.

Thank you both for your help. I will relay your messages to my friend when I see her and will send for the cert to make things clearer but that will not have a Welsh Address as they married in Lancashire.
Thank you
Edna

I spoke to my friend tonight who says she visited the house of her Grandfather as a young lady.
She wrote the following instruction
William Williams Y Walks Trelawnyd overlooks main road-Row of terraces near to graveyard on the main road. Cottage at bottom of Hill to the right of cottages (looking at them)
I hope this makes some sense to you taidgazacaz
Despatch date 16th for the marriage cert which should give Margarets fathers occupation with a bit of luck.
Thanks
Edna

Hello Tecwyn, Thanks for your help. I have just spoken to my friend and she says that there were no pubs on the row of about five cottages as she remembers and not garden center or allotments in front. She says the childrens names that she knows of were Jim, Will, Nell, and Margaret Her mother.
I will see what fathers occupation was when the cert comes and get back to you

The one i referred to, which is probably the same one Tecwyn found on 1901 is as follows Head William Williams b 1855, Wife Jane b1865 they had been married 17 years. They had 4 living children and another two which had some point died.
1, James Owen b 1895 2, Mary Ellen b 1901 3, William Parry b 1904 4, Margaret b 1904
I have no idea if William and Margaret are twins or if they were born within a year of each other. They were all born Newmarket and lived in a house with 5 rooms. The youngest two could only speak welsh. All birth years are abouts no exacts if you know what i mean
