Hi,
I wonder if someone could assist me please, I am trying to find parents of Sarah Ellison born 6.11.1825 Manchester Cathedral, parents Lawrence & Judith Ellison.
Marriage certificate of Sarah to John Ambrose shows father as Lawrence Ellison Publican, married 20.10.1845 at Prestwich.
Would love to know further on the family

Hi,
So far I can only find a Judith Ellison born 1801 in Lancashire on the 1841 census. She is aged 40 and living in the Manchester Union Workhouse.
Do you think this might be her?
HO107/573/17 48 p 12
No sign of Lawrence yet.
Luzzu
PS If it is the right Judith, I can see her in 1851, 1871 and 1881 as a widow boarding with various people and then I think this is her death in 1882:-
June 1882 Judith Ellison aged 82 Manchester 8d 135

Hi again,
On the marriage certificate for 1845, does it say Lawrence is deceased?

Hi Luzzu, Thanks for this
info, no I didn't see these other children on the IGI, and no mention of Lawrence Ellison being deceased on the marriage certificate. Only that he was a Publican.
Have you been able to find Sarah Ellison on the 1841 census at all? She didn't marry until 1845. I guess, if that is her mother Judith in a workhouse in 1841, obviously Sarah must have been out there working somewhere

Hi,
I would say this one is the closest match. She is living in Salford with the Burgess family. It says she is 15 but I think ages were rounded down in 1841. The original is really difficult to read and I can't make out the occupation.
1841 Sarah Ellison 15 Benjamin Burgess 30 school master Mary Ann Burgess 30 Margret Burgess 3
HO107/ 586/ 5 Folio: 33 p 18
I think the address is Mason Street, Salford.
It looks like Sarah is the head in this transcription but she could have been living with the family recorded before as they were all at the same address. It is difficult to tell who belongs to who.
James Barnshaw 60 cotton weaver Sarah Barnshaw 60 Elizabeth Barnshaw 15
HO107/586/5 Fo 33 p18
Whilst I am looking, this is Sarah with her husband and family in 1851:-
1851 1 Court Battle Street, Manchester John Ambrose 27 head labourer Sarah Ambrose 25 wife John Henry Ambrose 5 son James Ambrose 3 son Jonathan Ambrose 1 son
John Ambrose was born in Liverpool and Sarah and the boys were born in Manchester.
HO107/2226/310 p 54

Hi again Luzzu, This is great, thanks for all of this information, yes I did have the Ambrose family information, but that seems to confirm it all now.
