I have some ancestors that have something to do with Annatwalls. Could some kind person explain to me what that is? I have also seen it spelled Hannatwalls. Is there a difference?

Hi again!

Is this the name of a place or a street?  We have Annetwell Street in the city - or what remains of it!  It's close to the Castle.  I'll see if I can see how it got it's name!

Best wishes

Hi

Forget all I said - although Annetwell Street may well be called after it, or if you know they were in Carlisle.

This link says that it's one mile south of Alston.

Thank you for your efforts. Yes, I think Annetwalls is near Alston. I googled it and it came up with a old farm house that has been converted into a restaurant or function centre. However, my interest is not the modern use but what it was used for in times past and why it's name.

The family I am researching appears to have moved frequently although usually in a very small area. Some were farmers and some lead miners (and quite often both). Annatwalls was one of the places they gave as residence.
