I know this thread is about AVG - but as there are some issues with the new upgrade I think I will wait until they have been ironed out (just like AVG8).  In the mean time I will need to installed someother virus/spyware - Can someone please tell me if Avast has spyware attached to their free virus? Huh

Have a look at http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

Avast (free) Home Edition does include some anti spyware facility but it would be advisable to also run Spybot and (at least) one other reputable (free) anti spyware (only) product as well.

I think that you should be aware that if it is your initial intention to use Avast merely as a stop gap ... you might probably decide, after only a short time of using it, that you will want to stay with it, by choice.

You need to run a separate antispyware with just about all free AV programmes.

It wasn't the end!!

If anyone still wants to install AVG 9 Free edition with Dial Up they may find the following link helpfull www.computeractive.co.uk/2143251

There was an error with installation but there is an explanation here

I successfully downloaded and installed AVG 9 Free edition over a two day period and so far so good.
