Looking for any assistance in locating information on Eliza Williams, who was born about 1864 in New Brunswick, Canada and whose parents were John Williams (sailor) b. in Jersey, 1830 and mother Susannah Wornes (Warnes) born in England about 1833. The parents had at least two other children, Stephen Williams (b abt 1853) in Australia and a sister, Amelia, born about 1860 in New Brunswick, Canada.
Any further information on this family would be welcomed as I am putting together a family history report for a descendant in Australia. Eliza Williams married Edward Albert Batson in 1891 in Albury, NSW.
Thank you.
Jim

Hi there,
In the 1903 Electoral Roll (the first year that females were included, but it was not compulsory to enrol).... at the polling place of Bowna, (its near Albury, NSW), there's the following people with surname BATSON... (listing is alphabetical, and is NOT by household)..
Edward, living at Tabletop, occupation boundary rider; Fairley, (a female), living at Bowna, occupation domestic duties James Valentine, living at Tabletop, occupation labourer, William, living at Bowna, occupation boundary rider
Still looking for Eliza....

Amongst the many excellent resources at the top of the board - - Australian Resources - NSW Resources - include online searchable bdm's for NSW. You may like the registration numbers for your research. http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/familyHistory/search.htm
May I ask what information you require for your friend, as you mention a descendant in Australia who may have already covered the Australian family history of Elizabeth and Edward, or are you looking for Elizabeth's siblings and parents?

On my version of the NSW 1903 electoral roll it shows the address of Edward and Eliza as Ellerslie [? a property name] and town Splitter's Creek. If you google maps you will see is an rural locality slightly north west of Albury. They are the only BATSON's enrolled in the division of Hume with an entry in the "Address" column.
I mention this as there is place called Ellerslie north east of Albury but in 1903 was not in the Electoral Divison of Hume.

Hi everyone,
Thank you very much for all your information. It has been well received. I will now compile what I have and get back to the group if I have any further queries. One question that someone may be able to enlighten me about is I have a Margaret Brogan, daughter of James Brogan and Elleinor Horan, both from Ireland. Margaret was born in Ireland about 1821. She marryied Michael Murphy in Sydney on 10 Jun 1836. I have three children borne of this marriage. One of which is Bridget Murphy.
The query I have is that I have two separate possibilities of who she married. 1 - William Davies Wales, married on 10 Jan 1858 in Yackandanda, NSW. 2 - William Batson who married about 1866 or so in the Gundaroo area.
The latter marriage has never been found.
I have documents on the children of William Batson and Bridget Murphy.
Any suggestions as to which might be the correct marriage? I am unsure where Yackandanda is regarding Goulburn area.
Thanks
Jim

Hello Jim,
Yackandandra is very close to Albury. If you put it into Google Maps, that'll give you an idea how close it is.

There is a death for William D WALES listed on NSW BMD site, 1908 Cootamundra, parents William and Eliza.
Also two deaths Bridget WALES, both with parents John and Mary one registered Young, 1901 other registered Cootamundra 1918.
Given that there are the two deaths reg at Coota it is possible that this is the couple married in Vic. The Vic marriage index doesnot give a place of birth for either party. You could download the certificate for about $17 which SHOULD give info about their parents.
There are a number of deaths ofthe children found by Alison on the NSW BMD site from 1859 in Binalong to 1938 in Coota, with others in Booroowa and Yass which are all reasonably close.
If we could find some actual dates for these I'd be happy to look them up in the newspaper - the Coota Herald has some great obits but I need a date
