I know Richrd Hughes was married in April 1853 stated his age as 24, Father William Hughes, he gives his place as birth on later census returns as Montgomery, or Montgomeryshire, or North Wales and once as "Landery". As he could not write and the census returning officer was English, this is a mis spelling. Please may I be advised as to the correct spelling. I cannot locate the correct Richard Hughes son of William Hughes on the 1841 census, I believe by 1851 he was no longer living with his parents. Thank you Geoffrey

Welcome to Rootschat
Can you give the references for the later census so I can have a look at the images and see if I can make sense of it!

I've had a look and it's not easy to decipher is it? I have tried many variations of the words and come up with nothing. Google maps found Llandovery but that's in Dyfed
The 1871 doesn't help either..............his place of birth is just recorded as Montgomery, which could be the County or Montgomery town.
In your first post you said Richard married in April 1853. Do you have the marriage certificate? If so, where was he living when he got married?

yes I have the 1853 marriage certificate, Richard Hughes son of William Hughes married Ann Garbett in Farlow & Stottesden in the district of Cleobury Mortimer (shropshire). So he was a long way from his birth place at this time

Does it say where he was living at the time of the marriage?
