In the 1911 census William Smith, aged 26, is living with his sister in Sale Cheshire. He was born at Cotesheath, Staffs.
In 1901 he living with the rest of has family at Swinnerton, Staffs.
I looked in FreeBMD and there are three William Smiths registered in Stone in about the right period.
Is anyone able to find him in 1891 or 1901 please?
Thanks in anticipation, Mac

hmmm - tough one !
As Swynnerton & Eccleshall is in the same STONE District, and sibling George also born Cotes Heath, one assumes they are in the same area back in 1891 ....
I keep coming back to this family and wondering if the Mothers age is correct ?
Assume you have access ?

ah, an Elizabeth
well, that puts the dampers on the 1891 find !
A real puzzle then.
How do you know that William's parents are those you quote ?

My starting point is that William Henry and Mary are the parents of Elizabeth. 1911 Elizabeth and husband Douglas Macdonald at 1 Dudley Rd., Sale Cheshire with Son Douglas, Daughter Violet and Lodger William Smith, Brother in law, 26, born Cotes Heath.
I must be honest, this is the first time I've found any mention of him, but as I said, I and Rootschat can't find the family in 1891. I'm afraid the reference you give for 1891 doesn't mean anything to me. Can you give the details please?

Hi 'Killick.
Sorry, should have been brother in law. As you said that would be his relationship to Douglas.
Until 1911 I couldn't find Elizabeth anywhere. She actually was christened Eliza at Cotes Heath in 1887 but was always known as Elizabeth. As I said before, in 1891 I cant find any of the family anywhere. By 1901 she had left home, in 1899 I believe she was a sculliery maid in Trentham and in 1906 she was married in Altrincham, Cheshire having worked there for some time.
Unfortunately Mary A., Harry and Edward from your 1891 family don't fit (or I've never heard of them).
Hope that may help a bit.
Mac

hopefully someone else will have a crack at this 1891 challenge - I cant tease them out using all the usual techniques.

Hi 'Killick
Douglas and Elizabeth were married at Chorlton but I threw Altrincham in as that was where it is believed she lived prior to the wedding.
Other people have looked for the family but I thought William may have given us a new lead as I only found out about him when I had the 1911 results.
Thanks ever so much for the time you've spent on this one.
All the best,
Mac

Pleasure Mac
I double checked Nat Archives to see if there were any comments about the PIECE #s (probably) involved ..... also had a look in Wales.
Its not unknown for families to be missed ( sometimes altogether, more often lumped in with an adjacent household by the transcribers).
Hopefully someone else will have a go.
