Mary was born according to the marriage cert 1863 but her death certificate makes her born 1861. She was born in Merthyr Tydfil, but as there are so many Mary Evans born in Merthyr Tydfil I didn't have a clue which one to order. I don't have any census's to do with her as I was trying to work out what an agent could be and maybe get a clue from that. On the marriage cert to Daniels Davies, Daniels fathers occupation was Farm Labourer and Evan Evans just said labourer. 23rd March 1890 Adulam Chapel, Hiawad Street. ? Not sure of the spelling but in Merthyr Tydfil 23 March 1890 being the date of the marriage? On the Marriage cert, does it have an address for the couple after the reading of the banns. marcie

I guessed with the 1870 agent as he was dead in 1890, so kind of hedged my bets so to speak.
The address for Mary on her marriage cert was, Gwainfarren House.

You are so kind and I do thank you marcie, but how do I choose which ones to look up?
All I have is the marriage certificate and nothing else, but if I could narrow it down to a couple then I could start to look for Mary's birth cert who was born in Merthyr Tydfil.

marcie, I haven't been able to find any of the census's where it states Evan Evans is an 'Agent'. I am searching on Ancestry, is there somewhere else I can look?

Chloe Try the IGI or the FREEcen Choose a couple at a time.... and check the details to see if they have Mary there. If you can note the census year and deduct the age stated it will give you the birth year. Also make a note of the address. Keep all this to one side as it will have details of parents and siblings. If you find a match to the info you know to be true, then you can go further and check the children etc. The sites I have mentioned are free sites. But should you become totally stuck, place your information you have found on here and someone who has more experience than I can help you. marcie

Chloe If you write down Occupation in the space provided and if it allows you to do so, the place e.g. Glamorgan along with his name, he should turn up or at least only those men with that name and with that occupation.

Hi Chloe
Can you go back to the marriage certificate and let us know who the witnesses were please?
Have you found Mary on later censuses? What information do you get from these? What does she call her children? Sometimes they were named after siblings or parents, so might be some clues there.
Were any family members or witnesses staying with the young family in later censuses?
Kind regards, Arranroots

Hello Arranroots,
Mary and Daniel had 4 children Levi b 1891, Reginald b 1893, Margaret b 1898 and Llewellyn b1902. These ancestors I do know about.
On the marriage certificate the witnesses were Wm. Evans and the mark of Thomas Davies.
Regards Chloe
