Mary Ann Targoose
« on: Friday 06 November 09 23:00 UTC (UK) »

I have the marriage certificate of Thomas Turgress (the name Targoose has a multitude of spelling options) but I think this is the right guy.He marries Mary Ann Poole in 1839 she gives her fathers name as William Poole.
Mary Ann gives her birth place as Sutterton, Boston, and Pinchbeck on various census .
I have one of her children's birth certificates which gives her maiden name as Judd, and there was a Sarah Judd living with them in 1851  (mother) with birthplace given as Sutterton.
I had a Lincolnshire fiche which had a Mary Ann Pooley born 1820 the illegitimate daughter of Sarah Pooley and a Sarah Pooley marrying William Judd in 1821 all in Sutterton. This made some sense to me and I put them all together. In 1841 there was a Sarah Judd and a William Judd living at the same address. I have just received the death certificate of Sarah Judd (& this is the only one I could find between 1851&1861 )which states she was the widow of Robert Judd.So I am trying to see if I can find out who Mary Anne's parents actually were.

Could there have been two William + Sarah JUDDs? ... this doesn't answer your question about Robert though.

Children
1820 Henry, Moulton
1821 Robert, Moulton (died 1821)
1822 Thomas, Surfleet
1823 Frederick, Moulton
1824 Frederic, Surfleet
1824 Sarah, Spalding
1830 Eliza, Pinchbeck (died 1831)

The marriages being perhaps
20 Feb 1820 Moulton
William JUDD to Sarah BELL

21 Sept 1821 Surfleet
William JUDD (wid) to Sarah POOLEY

There was a Frederic JUDD age 15 (so could really have been as old as 19) in the 1841 household with Thomas and Mary Ann....

Do you believe - or know, due to address or informant etc  - that the 1857 death certificate of Sarah JUDD in Spalding district, is the same woman (Mary Ann's mother)  who was living with Thomas & Mary Ann in 1851?

Cheers

I have these burials-

21 Feb 1843 Pinchbeck
William JUDD (73)
4 March 1857 Surfleet
Sarah JUDD (63)

I said above that the William JUDD who married in 1821 was a widower ...

there were these baptisms to a William and Susanna JUDD-
1812 William at Cowbit
1815 Eliza
1817 John
1820 William,
the last three at Sutterton, the final one shortly after the burial at Sutterton of Susannah JUDD (29) on 19 Dec 1819.  Presumably, her widower was the one who married Sarah POOLEY.

The informant on Sarah's death certificate is Ann Burton which doesn't help. She died at Surfleet March 1 1857 aged 62 which puts her in the right age range but I am not sure if this is Mary Ann's mother I'll have to research Ann Burton further.
William Judd who died 1843 Pinchbeck informant Sarah Birdall? I think. again no help.
Thomas Judd was one of the witnesses at Thomas and Mary Anne's wedding.

Looking at Sarah's death certificate again I am becoming less certain I have the right Sarah's death on the 1851 census she was 67 which suggests that in 1857 she would be 72/73 and although I know ages are less than exact on census this seems a major discrepancy. Also why Surfleet , I thought maybe a relative was living there but I can find no connection with Ann Burton.I can find no other death of a Sarah Judd between 1851 and 1861 in Lincolnshire or Cambridgeshire nor can I find a marriage.
