Thomas Gibbon & Eleanor Eden - help pls!
« on: Friday 26 February 10 01:16 UTC (UK) »

Hello all, I am trying to gather more information about this couple, but am at my wit's end!  Huh  First, all of the information I have on them is from extracted IGI information.  According to the IGI they had 3 children: William b. 3 Oct 1801; Elizabeth b. 17 Dec 1803; Ebeneezer b. 20 April 1806; Although they were all born about 2 years apart --- they were ALL baptized the same day at Newcastle All Saints Church!  Obviously, there was something going on in this family to delay the baptisms.  If anyone has access to the All Saints parish register for those years, could they please look at those baptisms and see if there is any notation in the parish register to see WHERE Thomas and Eleanor originated??  Since I cannot seem to find their marriage in Northumberland nor can I seem to find either one's baptisms, I am thinking they came from elsewhere....??  ANY help or advice on this puzzle will be sincerely appreciated.  Thank you.  Pat

It's just a matter of trawling through them. Good luck.

Hello kerry and ruskie, Thank you both!  Kerry, thanks for the additional information; I  think it was Margaret Berry....also, the oldest son, William appears to have married into my Fairless line. And, yes, I do have the exact birth dates from the extracted records.  Ruskie, thanks for the tip -- how could I forget?   Huh  Thank you both....every little bit helps.  Sincerely, Pat

The baptisms of those children in Newcastle All Saints say that Thomas was a labourer of Auckland St. Helen, and Eleanor daughter of William Eden, Schoolmaster of Falkirk Scotland

William was 1st son, Ebenezer 2nd son and Elizabeth 1st daughter

Their son Ebenezer (I presume its him, not too many Ebenezer Gibbons around) has a daughter named Helen Edie Gibbon in 1851 census. She marries in 1865 in Newcastle with the name Helen Eadie Gibbon. All the rest of his kids in 1851 have family names as middle names, mostly Berry which looks to be his wifes maiden name.

There is a marriage in Falkirk, Stirlingshire, October 15 1800. "Thomas Gibbons, Soldier in the North York Militia, and Helen Adie in this parish."

Then there is a baptism in Falkirk, April 15 1770. "Katherine and Helen Addie, twin daughters of William Addie and Isabel Leckie. Witnesses James Whyte and Edward Wardrope. The twin children were born April 4th".

Other baptisms in Falkirk of children of William Addie and Isabel Leckie on the IGI are Marion Adie 1768 and Ebenezer Addie 1777.
