Michael SEXTON & family from CLONDAGAD
« on: Saturday 07 November 09 04:30 UTC (UK) »

Looking for any info about Michael SEXTON's family. He immigrated from Ireland to Australia in 1851 aboard the 'Sarah' with his wife,Honoria (Norah) (nee HASSET) & two daughters, Ellen & Nance
(known as Annie)
The families native place in the records is given as CLONDAGAD, Co CLARE.
I would like to know who Michael SEXTON's parents were or any other info on the family.
Thanks

Welcome to Rootschat. The best source to find Michael Sexton's parents' names is probably his Australian death certificate since civil registration of births in Ireland started in 1864.

Hi
As you can see from NSW BDM Michael SEXTON's parents are listed as being UNKNOWN.

Registration
Number     Last Name  Given Name(s)  Father's Given  Mother's Given      District
                                                               Name(s)             Name(s)
7517/1893    SEXTON       MICHAEL         UNKNOWN         UNKNOWN        JUNEE

I thought there may be a record of the family in CLONDAGAD.
Michael's wife is Honoria (Norah) (nee HASSET) born 1819 in Co Clare, her parents are John HASSET & Mary HARTEGAN

Thank you for the quick reply to my query.

Have you seen the actual death certificate? I think I remember seeing somewhere parents not listed in death or marriage index but were on certificate but not sure where the certificate was from. Of course it's possible that the informant didn't know the details.
What about a marriage certificate then?

I haven't  seen the actual death certificate.
I don't knowwhether the parents names are on it or not. I just assume that because the names are not listed on NSW BDM index they probably wouldn't be on the actual certificate.

Michael & Honoria SEXTON were married in Ireland. The date I have is 1837?? I have no other details. Ellen their first child was born abt 1841, she was listed as being 10 yrs old when the family immigrated.

Three to four years between marriage & first child seems a long time, maybe there was a child who didn't survive. But I have found no record of this.

Thanks
