Hi Kay

Finding burials that occured within London and its environs is notoriously difficult due to the vast numbers of burials involved and the possible locations.

Have you looked at our guide to London Burials for information?

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,403492.0.html

By 1945 she may have been cremated so don't exclude crematoria in your search.

Hi Kay

Once you've identified some possible places, have a look at the local councils' websites, some charge for look-ups some don't. Your best move is to send the department responsilbe for cemeteries an email, explaing the situation and asking for help with locating a grave. You'll have more chance of success 1st time if you explain you live overseas and give them a full name, actual date of death and last known address.

Good luck and please let us know how you get on.

:DThank you Dawn once again for your reply to my query on place of Burial for
Elvira Chambers
died 4 th December 1945 at St Nicoles Hospital (?)
age 82 years
of
18 Riverside Rd Plumstead
wife of Henry R Chambers.

My thoughts are is there a Official Office that the death and place of burial are registered with.
I will try the council that Plumstsead is located with.
Thank you

Hi Kay

Plumstead is now in the London Borough of Greenwich

Here's a link to their cemeteries page

http://www.greenwich.gov.uk/Greenwich/CommunityLiving/BirthsDeathsMarriages/DeathAndBereavement/CemeteriesBurial/CemeteryLocations.htm

I think there are at least 2 possibles as a last resting place.

Click on cemetery services and there's a contact email adddress.

Their web site does say they make a charge but have a go as I explained in my earlier post.

Hope this helps.
