Samuel PEARCE - St Germans and Morval
« on: Saturday 07 November 09 11:12 UTC (UK) »

This is a hope that someone will know where Samuel Pearce shoemaker b 1820  in Morval, kept his shop  in St Germans? In Kelly's Directory in the late 1800's his post goes to St Germans and as the Family had connections there and Duloe, I have assumed! that his business was there. It is confusing because there were Two Pearce Families in Morval at that time, all with the same first names and they are always being attributed to each other.
I think the period would have been @1865-1900
Many thanks  Marton

Hi Marton,

According to the 1893 Kelly's directory Samuel appears to have been listed at Widegate. (Listed under Morval) Widegates is 2 miles east of Morval (closer to Morval than St Germans, but he chose to receive his mail at St Germans and so is also listed in the trades directory as Widegate St Germans.

He is also listed in the 1856 PO Directory as Widegate

I would expect that is where his business was.

As you say - there is a second Samuel Pearce in St Germans - a tailor.

Thank you Kris , we have had  many happy hols looking into the Pearces of Widegates, finding gt gt grandfathers farm near Pelynt ect.  and connecting with other branches of Pearces scattered far and wide.
As some of the previous generations had lived  in St Germans, I wonder why he chose to have his post from there!
Widegates was such a tiny hamlet within Morval- blink and you miss it!
